The deck surfaces cast in plastic give way to a surface with the grain of planks, so the cheerful little ship gains a real texture where otherwise the paint has to pretend one.
The Going Merry is a small caravel with a lamb's head at the bow, made famous by the comic and animated series One Piece. In the story she became the first vessel of the pirate crew and viewers took to her so much that she is among the most frequently built ships of all, although she never existed. Models of this ship also appeal to modelers who otherwise avoid historic sailing ships. The farewell to the ship is moreover among the strongest moments of the whole story.
The wooden surface forms a counterweight on the model to the bold colors of the hull, so leave it natural and be content with gently bringing out the gaps. Before you seat the pieces, lay them down dry and check the shape around the openings for the mast and the superstructure. Mark the small surfaces beforehand so that you do not mix them up. The model is small, so it pays to have tweezers and a freshly snapped blade at hand.
