A Hataka modeling paint from the Orange Line range. The shade is called Greyish Sand, that is a grayish sand tone, and the manufacturer gives the number FS 20227 with it. FS is the American federal chart of color shades, in which every tone has its number, so that it is clear which real subject it comes close to and so that it can be compared across brands. The leading two in the chart belongs to the group of semi-gloss tones, and the rest of the number identifies the particular shade.
Stir the bottle well before use, as the pigment settles at the bottom. Choose the thinner and the thinning ratio according to the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging, that is always the thinner made for this range. Do not mix different ranges with each other, as the binder may curdle and the coat then goes grainy. Apply several thin coats instead of one heavy one and let each one set. Wash, degrease and even the base out with a primer beforehand.
A semi-gloss coat reflects light, so shapes stand out better on it, but it is harder to draw on and harder to work pigments into. If you plan weathering, let the coat cure thoroughly and only then carry on. At the end you can even the degree of sheen out with a varnish according to how the model is meant to look. A light sand tone will also show every unevenness, so finish the filling and sanding before you spray.
The paint is supplied on its own. The thinner, primer and varnish are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
