An extruded rod made of polystyrene with a hexagonal cross-section, 1.0 mm wide and 250 mm long. This is not a kit — it is a raw material for modelers from which you make details you will not find in the box. Sold as 1 piece.
The main strength of a hexagon is that its cross-section already is the shape a modeler most often needs. Simply slicing thin disks off the rod produces bolts, nuts and rivet heads straight away — all perfectly identical, with equally sharp edges. A round profile only gives you a rivet, a square one only a square head; a hexagon gives you what predominates on real equipment. Cutting individual hexagons by hand does not make sense either — they would never come out identical.
A width of 1.0 mm is a versatile middle size. It suits bolts and nuts in the larger, medium scales 1:35 and 1:24, technical engine details, flanges, and fasteners on frames and beams. It is large enough to read clearly once painted, yet not so massive that it looks coarse on typical equipment.
Polystyrene is glued with ordinary plastic cement — thin liquid cement flows into the joint by capillary action and welds it, so no special ABS glue is needed. Cut the rod with a sharp knife or a modeling saw, keeping the cut perpendicular. Lightly sand the ends so the slice sits flush. Degrease the plastic before painting and spray it with a primer.
