This is a plastic kit from the stylized line that modelers call egg planes. The fuselage is deliberately shortened, the cockpit enlarged and the whole shape caricatured, so the model has no scale and does not aim at the exact dimensions of the real subject. Even so it keeps recognizable features, with the Starfighter above all its short straight wings and its slender pointed nose. The package holds two models: the single-seat F-104J and the two-seat F-104DJ trainer, and with them clear parts and decals. The markings refer to the 207th and 203rd Squadrons of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. The maker Freedom Model Kits comes from Taiwan.
The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter was a supersonic fighter with very small straight wings and a powerful turbojet, designed above all for rapid climb and the interceptor role. Japan operated the F-104J version built under license and the two-seat F-104DJ trainer. The type served with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force for several decades and it was one of the main interceptors of its day.
Thanks to the shortened shape the build is quick and undemanding, and it suits a relaxing project between two large models. Glue with thin cement for plastic, which flows into the joints by capillary action, because on small parts any excess is harder to remove. Apply a primer before painting, because the metallic look of the Starfighter comes out best over a smooth surface. Overcoat the area with a gloss varnish before the decals and with a matte or satin one once dry. Mask the clear parts and glue them on only after painting.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
