Low bushes early summer — finished bushes for a diorama

Low bushes early summer is finished scenery growth of the low shrub layer from the Czech manufacturer Model Scene. It is not a kit and not a loose material you would have to shape yourself — the bushes are made, foliated and all you need to do is settle them into a scene. Low bushes are the detail in a diorama that is easily overlooked, yet it is precisely they that separate areas of grass from trees, fringe field margins and ditches and make terrain broken up.

What the vegetation looks like

The coloring matches the start of summer: a rich, full green with no dried-out tones. The bushes are densely foliated and read as lush, and the wood of the branches is hidden under the leaf mass. The bushes have an irregular shape spreading sideways with no distinct trunk, as is usual with self-seeded shrub growth. The individual pieces differ slightly from one another in size and density, so a group does not read as a set of identical castings.

Placing it in the scene

First paint the substrate an earth tone. The bushes are attached with PVA glue, and cyanoacrylate will serve for small pieces. Do not plant them in a row or at regular intervals — nature grows in clusters, so several bushes close together with open space between them looks more credible. Always cover the foot of a bush with a tuft of grass, turf or a scatter, so that it does not show where the growth begins. It also pays to combine pieces of different sizes and add a taller tree, which creates a natural grading of growth from grass through bushes up to the crown.
