A kit of the Albatros D.III fighter biplane built under license by Oeffag, in 1:32 scale, in the markings of Polish postwar service.
Responsibility details are not available.
In 1917 the Albatros D.III was among the most successful fighters of the First World War. It had a slim fuselage with a wooden shell covering, a lower wing narrower than the upper one and V-shaped interplane struts. The Austro-Hungarian Oeffag works built the type under license and gradually improved it: the airframes were given a stronger structure and a more powerful water-cooled Austro-Daimler inline six, and the later series a rounded nose without a propeller spinner, which simplified cooling. It is precisely the Austro-Hungarian machines that are usually considered the most accomplished form of the whole type.
The qualifier in the product name points at Polish service. After the collapse of the monarchy, Poland acquired a larger number of machines from Oeffag production and used them in the first postwar years; besides air combat they were also employed against ground targets. Which particular markings the package offers, and what goes with them, is described in the manufacturer's instructions.
Cut the surplus material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder off carefully. Before you reach for the glue, put the airframe together dry: on a biplane what matters is that the upper wing lies parallel to the lower one and that the struts stand exactly as they should. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. Rig the bracing wires only once it is painted and work from the inner pairs outwards, otherwise you will no longer reach the first of them.
The set aims at modelers who like First World War aircraft and do not mind a build in which they work out the sequence for themselves. Paints, glue and tools are not included in the box, unless stated otherwise.
