About product

AMMO of Mig Jimenez LIGHT DUST - a Modeling Pigment

LIGHT DUST is a fine loose pigment from AMMO of Mig Jimenez in a light, dusty gray shade. It serves to imitate light settled dust, that is the most ordinary dirt a vehicle picks up practically anywhere. It is a modeling weathering product, not a kit. The pigment comes as a dry powder in a jar with a volume of 35 ml. It is not a liquid paint but a powder that is applied dry with a brush and rubbed into the surface.

Use

  • a light layer of dust on the upper surfaces of a hull, wings, hoods and superstructures
  • dusty interiors, cabs, instrument panels and seats
  • dusty deposits on wheels, fenders and the lower parts of a model
  • picking out edges, rivets and cast detail with a light dusty touch
  • subtle lightening and fading of surfaces that dry out in the sun in service

How to work with the pigment

Pick a small amount of the powder up with a soft flat brush and rub it into a flat surface. Light dust looks best in an uneven layer, so concentrate the pigment on horizontal surfaces and in corners, where dust really does settle, and wipe it away where the wind would blow it off or the crew would wipe it away. The shades can be layered and combined with darker earth pigments, which creates depth and keeps the model from looking uniform. Unfixed pigment can be wiped off at any time, so the result can be tuned at leisure. A pigment fixer or lacquer thinner, applied beside the powder and left to wick in under it, will settle the finished application.

Who it is for

For modelers of military vehicles, civil vehicles, aircraft and dioramas who are looking for an all-round light dust shade for everyday dirt. It is one of the most usable pigments to start with, because light dust comes into its own on most subjects regardless of the theater.

The pigment is a loose powder. Do not inhale it, do not blow into it and work in a well-ventilated space, ideally with respiratory protection. The powder is easily stirred up, so handle the jar carefully. Keep out of the reach of children.

FAQ

LIGHT DUST is an all-round light dust with no pronounced shift toward sand. It suits ordinary dusting of vehicles in any environment, while desert shades aim at a particular theater.

Apply the pigment in small amounts with a dry brush and concentrate it on horizontal surfaces and in corners. Take it away again where the wind would blow the dust off or the crew would wipe it away. Unfixed powder can be adjusted at any time.

Yes, layering and mixing is a normal approach. Light dust combines well with darker earth shades, which add depth and keep the look from being uniform.

It will not. Without fixing, the pigment wipes off while the model is handled. Use a pigment fixer or lacquer thinner and let the application dry.
