Abteilung 502 Light Dust — a modeling pigment

A dry, loose modeling pigment from Abteilung 502 in the shade Light Dust, that is, the light beige-gray color of fine dust. It is a fine weathering powder, not a liquid paint: it is applied dry and serves for weathering a model that is already painted. Light Dust is a light, slightly warm dust tone matching settled road and field dust; it is lighter and more neutral than the sand and earth shades. It is supplied in a jar (usually 20 ml of loose powder).

Use

• Pick the pigment up with a soft brush and rub it in dry on running gear, undersides, fenders and horizontal surfaces, where dust settles.
• To anchor it permanently, seal it with a pigment fixer or with odorless mineral spirits; after sealing, the shade darkens slightly and goes flatter.
• Layer it with darker earth and dust tones for a three-dimensional, realistic deposit of dust.
• Dust any excess loose powder off lightly before sealing, so that you keep the effect under control.

For modelers of armored vehicles, aircraft, cars and dioramas who want to render a light, pale dusting and settled fine dust.

The pigment is a fine loose powder: do not inhale it, work in a draft-free area and with respiratory protection. Fixers are flammable, so use them in a ventilated space. Keep out of the reach of children.
