What the set is for

Sprayed national insignia have two advantages over decals. They have no carrier film, so they do not silver on a matte coat and do not create a glossy outline around themselves, and they can be worked straight into scorching and wear, because they are part of the finish rather than a layer above it. A star also often lies on a joint between surfaces or on a riveted panel, where a decal breaks and will not settle without a softener.

What the set contains

The set contains masking stencils of stars in sizes from 5 to 11 mm. The span of sizes makes it possible to choose the marking according to the scale and according to the subject you are building; one and the same sheet thus serves on a model in a smaller as well as a larger scale. The number of pieces of the individual sizes and the material of the stencils are stated by the manufacturer.

Painting tips

Apply the stencil onto a finished, dry and degreased coat and press the edges down carefully. It pays to spray over the edge with the base shade of the underlying coat first: if the paint creeps under, it will be the color of its surroundings and will not show. Only then lay on the shade of the marking, in several thin coats perpendicular to the edge. Lift the stencil off soon after the paint has dried, slowly and at an angle to the surface. Measure the position of the marking out before spraying, because a star placed crooked is visible on a finished model at first glance.
