An AK interactive masking tape in a 12 mm width with a 20 m roll. The carrier is rice paper (a washi-type tape): it tears well, can be cut with a knife along a ruler, and adheres even to a mildly shaped surface. This is a modeling aid, not a kit.
A modeling tape is not the same as tape from a stationery shop, even though it looks similar. Three properties matter. Tack is deliberately low and even — the tape holds, but does not pull off a layer of paint or a primer when removed. The edge is sharply cut, not frayed, so once pressed down it forms a real seal and paint cannot push under it, giving a sharp transition. And the adhesive leaves no residue, so there is nothing to degrease after removal.
Twelve millimeters is the middle ground, and for most modelers it is the tape reached for most often. It handles straight demarcation lines, covering small and medium areas, taping over already-sprayed sections, and holding masks or paper in place. If you need to follow a curve, the twelve starts to wrinkle on the bend — that is what the narrow 2 mm tape, which can bend around it, is for. Conversely, when covering large areas (wings, an entire fuselage, a truck bed), the wide 18 mm pays off: fewer strips side by side means fewer seams for paint to creep through.
A versatile choice for anyone who paints with a brush or an airbrush — from aircraft and vehicle builders to figure painters. If you are only going to keep one width at home, this is the one.
Press the tape down along the whole edge, spray the paint in thin coats, and remove it slowly at a sharp angle — the edge will then stay clean.
