Mechanical Dog Four Leg Walking Type is a Tamiya construction kit of a four-legged walking robot with a transparent body, on which the whole walking mechanism is visible.

A construction kit from the mechanical robotic range of the Japanese company Tamiya. The model walks on four legs and both its body and its legs are made of transparent yellow ABS, so the gearbox, the cranks and the linkages are visible as it walks. The overall length is 165 mm and the weight without a battery is 100 g. It is not a scaled-down version of a real animal, but a working mechanical model on which you clearly build and try out the conversion of rotating movement into a step.
The rotation of the motor is carried through the gearbox by a crank and linkages to the legs, which move alternately forward and back. By changing the position of the linkage in the holes of the crank, four different lengths of step are selected, and because the gearbox offers two gear ratios, eight combinations of gait are created in all, from a slow deliberate walk to a brisk trot. The package holds the motor, the gearbox and a reverse switch, so the model can back up as well. A spring tail rounds it out. Power is supplied by one AA battery, which is not included in the package.
The parts are joined with screws and the wiring is simplified; no soldering is needed. Tighten the screws sensitively, so that the joints do not lock up; the walking action has to turn over easily by hand as well. The model walks best on a level floor with a little grip; on glass or glossy tiles it slips. Painting is not needed, and on the transparent parts not even desirable, because the transparency is exactly the main merit of the set. Take the battery out if you are putting it away for a longer time.
The set is supplied unassembled. Batteries are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
