Medium Blue Grey is a gray with a clear blue cast, listed in the Federal Standard 595 color standard under the number 35237. The leading three belongs to the matte group of the standard, the five in second place to the blue family of shades. It is exactly this position between gray and blue that makes it a color which changes character on the model with the light it stands in.
Blue-gray tones are used on the upper and side surfaces of aircraft and on modern equipment, where the machine has to blend with the sky or the sea. The shade also works well as a cool counterpart to warm sand and brown fields: even a small area of blue-gray can calm the overall impression of the model in such a combination. It serves just as well on small details where it should be visible that this is not a pure gray.
Wash and degrease the surface so that the coat holds and does not lift with the masking tape. Stir the paint and apply it thinly; with blue-gray shades an uneven coat shows more than with dark colors. To break up the surface, choose a cool wash rather than a brown one, because a warm wash suppresses the blue cast. Thin it with the thinner intended for this paint range; the thinning ratio is stated by the manufacturer in the instructions on the packaging.
