Medium Decoupage - Gloss is a medium from the Green Stuff World line intended to imitate water. The name itself reveals mainly the resulting surface: Gloss means the glossy version, which suits a still water surface, a wet surface or a fresh puddle. In the same range, besides the gloss one, there are also a satin and a matte variant, so you choose the degree of gloss according to how the scene is meant to read.
How the medium is handled. Water surfaces are never made all at once. The medium is applied gradually and the next layer comes only when the previous one has cured right through, not merely on the surface. Prepare the channel, the pond or the puddle in advance, therefore: paint the bed and the banks, seal the edges so that the medium does not run outside the scene, and set the whole base level. Once it has dried you can no longer reach the base, so the color depth of the water is handled with a bed painted beforehand, not with a finished surface.
The surface and waves. A still water surface comes about by letting the last layer level itself and not interfering with it. Ripples, a wake behind a hull or the swirl around a post are modeled into the surface layer once it has set up, using a toothpick, a skewer or a brush with stiff bristles. The finer the wave, the smaller the tool and the more careful the stroke. The gloss variant brings out every piece of relief, because light reflects in it.
For builders of dioramas, railroad modules and gaming bases who need a glossy water surface or a wet surface. It suits military vehicles in the field just as well as civilian scenes and figures on a base.
