The special grade up to 110 g/dm3 is the lightest step on the balsa density scale. A cubic decimetre of that timber weighs no more than one hundred and ten grams, which is about 110 kg per cubic metre, well under what ordinary modelling woods weigh.
Its place is anywhere a gram matters: sheeting on lightweight gliders and chuck gliders, infill, ribs and all the unstressed parts that only have to hold a shape, not carry a load through it. How the density grades relate to one another is explained in balsa sheet for models, and the adhesives, coverings and clear finishes a wooden airframe needs afterwards are in model building supplies.
