Hasegawa photo-etched metal mesh with a hexagonal pattern and a large opening is used to imitate the honeycomb grilles of radiators, intakes and vents on models.

This is not a kit or an accessory for a particular model but a universal modeling material. The sheet is a photo-etched metal mesh with a regular hexagonal, that is honeycomb, pattern in the larger opening size. Compared with the medium version the structure is coarser and stays excellently readable even after painting and from a greater distance, which suits the large scales and diorama detail. The material is thin, cuts easily with photo-etch scissors and can be shaped slightly.
Cut off a piece with some to spare, lay it over the opening and only then trim it exactly to shape. Metal is glued with cyanoacrylate applied in a small amount around the edges of the opening, or with epoxy, as ordinary cement for plastic will not hold on it. Degrease the surface before painting and lay down a primer. Apply the paint in thin coats from a greater distance so that the openings do not flood. The honeycomb pattern has a pronounced orientation, so before gluing check that the direction of the pattern matches reality and follows the surrounding shapes.
For modelers of vehicles, aircraft, ships and science fiction subjects who want to replace blind plastic grilles with a genuinely perforated surface. Working with it is simple and even a modeler with no experience of photo-etched parts will manage it.
The cut edges of the metal mesh are sharp, so work carefully and clear away the scrap at once. Ensure ventilation when sanding and painting.
