Modern armour is painted in a few clearly defined schemes that stayed in use for decades: the sand finishes of Gulf War service, the NATO three-tone pattern and the greens used on Russian vehicles. All of them are opaque, matt and low in contrast, which means the spray job alone is only a starting point and most of the final impression comes from what goes on top of it. The one decision to make before spraying is how the NATO pattern is drawn, since the boundaries are soft on some vehicles and sharply cut on others. Once the base coat is down, engraved detail is brought up with panel line washes, and the vehicles the three schemes belong to are in military vehicle kits.
