About product

Larch 40-60 mm — a Model Scene Tree Model

A model of a larch 40 to 60 millimeters tall in summer green coloring from the Model Scene range. Against spruce and pine the larch has finer, lighter needles and a thinner, airier crown, which makes it stand out well from the other conifers in a scene. This middle size is among the most versatile: in the small scales it stands in for a mature tree, while in the larger scales it serves as a young tree beside a road or at the edge of a stand.

Use and scales

  • A height of 40-60 mm corresponds in H0 scale (1:87) to a tree roughly 3.5 to 5 meters tall.
  • In TT scale (1:120) it is a tree about 5 to 7 meters tall, and in N scale (1:160) about 6.5 to 9.5 meters.
  • In 1:35 scale it corresponds to roughly 1.4 to 2 meters, which suits a young sapling or a taller shrub.
  • Several pieces side by side make a natural group; do not plant the trees in a row but slightly irregularly.

Installation tips

Before setting it in, shorten the trunk to the depth of the base, so that the tree stands square and does not wobble. Put a drop of PVA glue (white glue) into a pre-drilled hole and hold the tree until it becomes tacky. Cover the base of the trunk with scatter material, moss or static grass; the most common mistake in a diorama is precisely a visible transition between the trunk and the base. If you are building a mixed stand, combine the larch with darker spruces; the difference in shade and in crown density gives the scene depth.

Who it is for

  • Modelers of H0, TT and N layouts
  • Builders of military and civilian dioramas in the larger scales
  • Anyone interested in mixed and mountain stands
  • Anyone building a scene with a road, a stream or a forest edge

This is a scenic accessory, not a model kit. The base, the terrain and the glue are not included in the package.

FAQ

A height of 40-60 mm means a tree about 3.5 to 5 meters tall in H0 scale, roughly 5 to 7 meters in TT and about 6.5 to 9.5 meters in N. In large scales such as 1:35 it is a young sapling of about 1.4 to 2 meters.

The larch has lighter and finer needles and a thinner, airier crown. The spruce is darker and denser. A combination of both types in one scene looks more natural than a single-species stand.

Do not plant them in a regular grid or in a row. A group of varying heights with irregular spacing and with undergrowth at the foot of the trunks has proved itself.

The number differs between sizes; the exact figure is stated by the manufacturer.
