A model of a larch in autumn coloring, 40 to 60 millimeters tall, from the Model Scene range. The golden yellow to russet needles match reality: in autumn the larch turns its needles and sheds them, alone among our common conifers. On a model that has a practical effect: among dark green spruces the larch creates a light accent that breaks the stand up, and the scene stops looking like one continuous green area. The middle size of 40 to 60 mm is the most usable of the whole range across scales.
Shorten the trunk to the length you need and set it into a pre-drilled hole with a drop of PVA glue (white glue). Mask the foot of the trunk with scatter material, moss or static grass. An autumn larch comes into its own most in contrast: plant it singly or in small groups among green conifers, not in a continuous belt. Under the tree it is a good idea to suggest fallen needles in the same shade with fine scatter, which creates a natural transition to the terrain. When photographing the scene, an autumn tree looks best backlit, when the needles are lit through.
