The masks are cut to shape in advance, so the long business of trimming tape right on the model falls away and the frame of the glazing stays crisply bounded after spraying. The version is double-sided, so the set allows for masking the clear parts from the outer and the inner side alike.
Masking the glazing and the vision ports is among the least pleasant steps of building a model of a ground vehicle. The frames tend to be narrow, the shapes irregular, and a single slip of the blade means a scratch on a clear part that can no longer be properly put right. A ready-made mask shortens that step to laying it on and pressing it down, and the result is the same on both sides of the model, which with hand-cutting only rarely comes off.
Lay the masks on a clean and degreased surface before spraying. Press the edges down carefully with a blunt tip or a toothpick, so that no paint bleeds under them. Spray straight at the surface and in thin coats, because a heavy coat bleeds even under a mask that has adhered well. Take them off while the finish is freshly dry, not after several days, when the coat hardens and takes a piece of the paint away with it as it is peeled. Peel slowly and at an angle over the edge, not straight up.
