What the tool is for

A riveting wheel restores rows of rivets on the surface of a model. It comes into its own wherever sanding a glued seam has wiped the original texture away, where the riveting is only suggested, or where it is missing altogether. The wheel is run over the surface and its teeth transfer evenly spaced impressions into the material.

The workmanship

This wheel is double-row, so it creates two parallel rows at once. That suits hems, transitions and joints where the rivets run in a double row, and at the same time it saves time over long stretches. The 0.40 mm pitch matches work in 1:72 scale.

How to work with it

• Mark the line out beforehand with tape or a flexible ruler.
• Try the procedure first on a scrap piece of the same material.
• Press lightly and evenly, as the depth of the impressions grows with the pressure.
• Run a longer stretch in a single pass, because a join tends to show.
• When you have finished, polish the area gently with a very fine abrasive and remove any burrs.
• Do the riveting only after the joints have been filled and sanded, or you will lose the texture.

Care and who the tool is for

The wheel is a fine tool, so store it in such a way that the teeth rest against nothing and do not deform. Keep it dry and clean, and remove plastic debris from it after work so that the teeth do not clog. It will be appreciated by the modeler for whom the texture from the mold is no longer enough and who wants sharp, even riveting, above all on models of aircraft and vehicles in smaller scales.
