A Hataka modeling paint in the gray shade Pearl Grey with a reference to the number FS 36493. Both the thinner and the ratio of thinning follow the instructions of the manufacturer on the packaging.
Responsibility details are not available.
Pearl Grey is a light gray shade, to which the name adds a number from the Federal Standard 595 register. That is an American list of color samples referred to both by the regulations for the finishes of vehicles and by modeling paints. A good deal can be read from the five-digit number: the leading three denotes a matte finish and the six in second place belongs to the group of gray shades. The number therefore confirms that it is a matte gray and not a glossy or semi-matte one.
Stir the bottle thoroughly before use, so that the settled pigment disperses. The thinner intended for this range and the ratio of thinning both for spraying and for a brush are given by the manufacturer on the packaging. Light gray shades cover less well than dark ones, so it pays to apply several thin coats and to unify the base with a primer beforehand; otherwise darker filler and joints show through.
Let the surface set between coats, as a thick coat fills the fine engraving and dries unevenly. A matte surface is easily soiled by fingers, so once it is dry handle the model in gloves or by invisible areas.
The paint suits builders who work by references to Federal Standard numbers. A thinner, brushes and a model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
