A sanding piece of right-angled shape in a red finish. It serves for truing surfaces and edges and for removing excess material on a model.

A sanding piece is a tool for taking material off where a flat surface and a sharp edge are needed. With it you true mating surfaces so that parts line up without a gap, remove excess material and the marks left by production, and level a spot after puttying. Against abrasive paper held in the fingers it has an indisputable advantage: paper follows the shape of the finger and rounds the surface off, whereas a firm sanding piece carries a plane across the surface.
The right-angled shape is meant to let you work square to the surface and get exactly to an edge or into a corner without sanding the neighboring part. Proceed in short strokes and with moderate pressure; force does not speed the work up, it only clogs the abrasive surface faster and scratches the surface needlessly. Dust the sanded spot off as you go and check it against the light, because against sharp light the scratches and irregularities are recognized far sooner than by touch or by merely looking from above.
The manufacturer states the coarseness and the size of the sanding piece on the box, so work from a coarser grit to a finer one and make the last strokes with the finest you have. Sanded plastic builds up static and holds dust, so wash and degrease the surface before painting. The tool does not serve for cutting material apart, and for that use a saw or a knife.
The sanding piece is supplied on its own. A model, a kit and other tools are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
