What it is

The memory game is a simple game of recall: the cards are laid out picture side down and the players turn them over two at a time looking for matching pairs. Whoever finds a pair keeps it and plays again. The winner is the one with the most pairs at the end. This set has a truck theme, so it suits a household where vehicles and vehicle models are of interest.

Who it is for

The game suits children as well as playing together with adults. The rules can be explained in a moment and a single game takes only a few minutes. You choose the number of players to suit the situation, and it can be played by two. It serves as a small gift alongside modeling goods, especially for younger enthusiasts who are not yet up to building a model. Pictures of vehicles are often a child's first reason for taking an interest in machinery, and a memory game suits that better than a more complicated board game.

What to watch out for

A card game lasts a long time if the cards are treated with care. It pays to keep to a few principles.

• Keep the cards dry, as damp makes them curl and stick together.
• Put them back in their box after playing, or the set will soon be scattered.
• A bent corner later becomes a telltale mark that spoils the game.
• Play on a clean, dry table, as grease soaks into the printing.
• With the youngest children, play under supervision.

Terms of supply
