The package contains two sheets of heat-shrink plastic measuring 176 by 125 mm, which corresponds to the B6 format. Before heating the material is thin and translucent, so a pattern can be traced through it. After heating the area shrinks to approximately a sixth of its original size, while the sheet thickens considerably and the white color saturates into a full, opaque whiteness. The manufacturer is the Japanese company Tamiya and the product belongs to its range of creative supplies.
The procedure is simple and does not call for a modeling workshop. Draw the motif on the translucent sheet with an alcohol marker pen, or use colored pencils, and cut the shape out with scissors or a knife. If you are going to hang the finished piece up, make the hole now and make it considerably larger than it is to be in the end — it will shrink just like the rest of the part. Then heat the cut-out shape in a small tabletop oven. The material first curls, then flattens out and settles; at that moment it is done. After taking it out, weight it down with a flat object while it is still hot, so that it stays flat.
The shrinking goes hand in hand with a coarsening of the drawing, so draw the motif with larger gaps — fine lines merge after shrinking. Allow a margin in the dimensions: the larger the starting shape, the larger the finished piece. During heating the material behaves according to its thickness and the temperature, so try the first piece out as a test.
The heating is to be done by an adult. Work in a ventilated area, do not overheat the material and do not put it in direct contact with a heating element. Keep out of the reach of children.
