About product

Model Scene Late summer – limestone rocks S

A finished scenery part joining a rock outcrop of limestone with the vegetation that grows through it. The S designation sets the smaller size of the rocks, and the late summer version the coloring of drying vegetation, where yellow-green, ocher and straw tones already predominate. The piece is only placed and glued onto the terrain.

What the vegetation looks like and where it fits

A stony surface with parched vegetation is one of the most readable signs of poor soil and a hot summer. It suits field margins, the foot of a slope, the cutting of a country track and places where the bedrock pushes up close under the surface. In a scene it also complements a dusty vehicle and a dusty track well, because its color comes from the same palette.

Usage tips

Lay the growth only onto finished, painted and dusted terrain. Try the intended spot dry first, tear or cut the piece to an irregular shape as needed, since a sharp straight edge does not arise in nature. It is glued with PVA wood glue, and a drop of cyanoacrylate will serve for a firm hold on a hard substrate. Hide the transition between the growth and the surrounding soil with a sprinkled fine scatter, grit or pigment, so that the growth does not look like a glued-on carpet. You can match the coloring with a light overspray of heavily thinned paint from above or by dusting with pigment, always only very lightly and once dry. Place the rocks irregularly and sink them partly into the soil, so that they do not read as laid on the surface. The parched impression is supported by a fine light scatter and dust pigment tapped in around the feet of the rocks.

Who it is for

  • dioramas from summer and early autumn
  • scenes with stony and poor soil
  • modelers who want to break up a monotonous grassy area
  • vignettes, layouts and scenery bases

This is a scenery accessory for building a diorama, not a model kit. The base, the glue and any further materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

In the coloring of the vegetation. Late summer has yellow-green and straw tones, early summer is richly green.

The smaller size of the rocks. Suitable where pronounced boulders would read as too dominant.

It is not necessary, the coloring is finished. Matching it to a scene is done only by a light dusting with pigment.
