A black primer from the Mr.Paint range, pre-thinned for the airbrush. It creates a dark base under metallic shades and under dark schemes.

A black primer is used differently from the light variants. Under metallic paints it adds the depth they would never gain over a gray base: metallic particles show more strongly against a dark background and the surface really looks metallic rather than merely gray and shiny. Under chrome a black gloss base is an outright condition, and without it the surface will stay flat.
Besides metallic paints, a black primer suits dark camouflage schemes, where it saves coats of covering paint, and it works as the starting point for preshading. In that technique the covering paint is applied over the black base only partially, so a darker tone stays in the recesses and along the panel lines and the surface gains depth without a wash.
The paint is ready for the airbrush and is poured straight into the cup. Stir it gently before pouring, because vigorous shaking works air into the paint.
When working with a dark primer it is good to bear in mind that the quality of the surface is harder to check. Scratches and unevenness show less on a black surface than on a gray one, so it pays to inspect the surface before the primer goes on.
