A narrow flat strip 0.38 x 2.5 mm of white polystyrene. It suits door frames, window bars, tie loop straps and fine trim, where every tenth shows.
Responsibility details are not available.
The smaller the part, the more the width of the strip decides. Two and a half millimeters is a dimension you can still read clearly on a model, but it will not hide the shape beneath it. Combined with a thickness of just under four tenths it gives a strip that can be glued onto a finished surface as relief and does not look like a slapped-on layer.
It comes into its own on door jambs, glazing bars, canvas tie loops, cargo tie-down straps, the edging of tool boxes and fender trim. In larger scales it serves as the horizontal boarding of a hut wall, in smaller ones as a whole window frame on a vehicle. It is also practical for repairs: a badly made scribed panel line can be covered over with it without having to sand the whole part bare. Cutting the ends at an angle gives a frame with neat corners of a kind that would be hard to assemble from thicker material.
A narrow profile forgives fewer errors in squareness, so the cut is led in short strokes and without sideways pressure. Excess glue easily wicks onto a visible surface, so the brush is simply wiped on the edge of the pot and offered to the strip from the side. Several strips can be kept parallel with a strip of paper laid alongside as a spacer. Once dry, the joint holds well enough for the edge to be sanded flush with the base and the edge still stays sharp.
