A thin polystyrene strip 0.38 x 4.0 mm, length 35 cm. For trim, cover plates, edging and dividing strips on models and buildings.
Responsibility details are not available.
A section of 0.38 x 4.0 mm makes the rod a flat bar rather than a beam. The ratio of the sides is roughly one to ten, so the material can be bent into a slight curve without warming, wrapped around a cylinder or glued onto a curved wall where a stiff profile would spring away.
In large scales a width of four millimeters corresponds to metal about nine centimeters wide in 1:24 and fourteen centimeters in 1:35, while the thickness of the material stays under one and a half centimeters. That is exactly what tread plates, cover plates over a gap and fender trim look like on real equipment.
The strip can be cut even with ordinary metal shears; just take care that the end does not twist, and always cut the last millimeter with a knife instead. When gluing onto a large surface, apply the solvent with a brush gradually in small sections, otherwise the strip will start to warp before you manage to press it down. Rivets are pressed into material this thin with a blunted needle from the back, on a soft surface and nice and regularly; a strip of paper with the spacing marked on it will serve as a template.
Two strips glued one on top of the other give material of double the thickness with no visible joint, which comes in useful when you need a dimension that is missing from the range. Squeeze the excess glue out with a finger through a film and leave the joint weighted under a book for a day.
