A half-millimeter thickness combined with a width of two and a half millimeters gives one of the most versatile strips in the whole range. It is not as fragile as the thinnest strips, but neither is it so pronounced that it draws attention to itself. Modelers use it for the surrounds of hatches, cover strips over seams, lugs on tanks, frames for panels, reinforcements under long surfaces and as a base under a riveted strap.
A rod thirty-five centimeters long, a section of 0.50 by 2.5 millimeters, one piece per rod. A uniform section along the whole length means that parts taken from different places on the rod fit together without any adjustment.
If you want several absolutely identical little parts, set up a stop from a piece of plastic glued to the cutting mat and always push the strip up against it. When you need the strip even thinner, sand it on glass covered with sandpaper using a circular motion and keep measuring with a caliper. You get a rounded edge with a few passes of a sanding sponge at a slight angle.
Two strips glued on with a gap between them create a simple rail or guide profile with no need to reach for a more complicated shape. Set the spacing between them with an offcut of the same strip laid across.
First glue the strip in place and let it dry thoroughly, and only then press regular dimples into it from the outside with the point of a needle. Mark the spacing out in advance with a pencil or lay a paper strip with a drawn scale alongside. The result looks more convincing than glued-on imitation heads, which are often lost under a coat of paint.
