A styrene profile with a U-shaped section 3.2 mm wide and 35 cm long. A channel into which a sheet of matching thickness can be slid.
Responsibility details are not available.
A section in the shape of the letter U makes this length something other than a solid bar. Two legs and a base form a channel that reads as a full girder from the side but offers a groove from above. It is that groove that decides most of the applications: it takes the edge of a thin sheet or strip and covers it, so the cut edge is hidden and the joint looks like a pressed hem.
Modelers reach for a channel when they are building the frames of hatches, the edging of decks, the guide rails of sliding doors, cable ducts along a fuselage or the cross members of truck chassis. In railway modeling the girders of bridges and walkways are made up from it; on aircraft it suits the rails in cabins and on dioramas the door and window frames of buildings.
The material is white polystyrene, which is cut with a knife, a saw or nippers and joined with ordinary liquid cement for plastics. The ends are trued up with a few strokes of a file. If you want to blank the channel off, glue an offcut of sheet into it and sand it flush with the legs.
The length measures 35 centimeters, so one piece gives either a single long girder or dozens of short sections. Converted into 1:35 scale, the width of the section corresponds to a profile roughly 11 centimeters across; in 1:72 it is a girder almost a quarter of a meter wide, that is a structural element of a bridge or a hall. It pays to store it lying flat in a box or a tube, because a bent length is hard to straighten. The unit of sale is one piece.
