PS35 Blue Violet Spray

Tamiya PS-35 Blue Violet, blue violet 100 ml

A shade on the border between blue and violet from the Tamiya PS line. The line is a lacquer formulated for the flexible polycarbonate bodies of radio-controlled models and it is not intended for styrene plastic kits. The can holds 100 ml and it sprays straight, with no thinning and no mixing with other chemistry.

Working with a transitional shade

• Blue violet is a shade that changes character strongly with the base, because over a white covering coat it reads lighter and cooler, over silver it gains depth and sheen, and over black it slides almost into a dark blue
• That is exactly why you should make a test spray on an offcut of polycarbonate and try the base you are planning on it as well
• The thickness of the coat shifts the tone, because a thin coat looks more violet and a heavier one more blue, so keep the same pace across the whole surface
• It is painted from the inside and judged by looking from the outside, which is the safest check with transitional shades
• Bring the can up to room temperature and shake it for at least a minute so that the spray is fine

Who it is for

For builders who want something other than basic colors from a body but do not want to go to garish fluorescent tones. Blue violet works well as a main area with silver or white trim and it responds nicely to changing light, so the model does not look flat on the move. Anyone who wants certainty of one particular tone regardless of the light will be better served by a more unambiguous shade.

Safety at work: a flammable aerosol in a pressurized container. Spray outdoors or in a space with a constant supply of fresh air, away from open flame and hot surfaces, always with a respirator and eye protection. Keep a distance of roughly 25 to 30 centimeters. A test spray on a scrap piece matters with this shade, because the result depends on the base and on the thickness of the coat. Do not pierce or burn the can and do not expose it to temperatures above 40 degrees.
