Print Scale RAF Dark Green strips is a sheet of waterslide decals in the British camouflage shade Dark Green, intended for creating camouflage fields and their transitions on aircraft models without spraying.
Responsibility details are not available.
A sheet of decals by the manufacturer Print Scale in the British camouflage shade Dark Green. These are not national insignia or technical stencils but colored strips with which the camouflage fields and their boundaries are created on a model. The masking and spraying of the most sensitive part of the surface thus falls away. The manufacturer does not state a scale for this line; the strips are used as the particular model requires.
Dark Green was an upper camouflage shade of British aircraft from the end of the 1930s. In the land scheme it was combined with the shade Dark Earth, and in the later day fighter scheme with gray shades. The boundary between the fields had, according to the factory and the period, either a sharp edge or a soft spray; both are among the hardest parts of painting a model, and the decal strips deal with them without an airbrush.
Waterslide decals hold reliably only on a smooth glossy base. First spray the surface with a gloss varnish, therefore, and let it cure thoroughly. Dip the decal briefly, leave it to rest on its paper until the backing releases, and slide the strip into place. Soak the excess water up with a paper towel and apply a softener, so that the decal settles onto the engraved lines and the rivets. With longer strips proceed in shorter sections, so that the material does not ripple. Once dry, varnish the whole model with a matte coat: the edges of the decal are thereby closed over and the surface unified.
