A masking aid made of self-adhesive vinyl film supplied as a single sheet. The sheet carries rings, that is annuli whose line has a constant width of 0.8 mm throughout the set; the diameters themselves are graded on the sheet, so you pick the size that matches the detail on the model. The inner diameter of each ring follows from the base size enlarged by the line width. This medium fine line covers most ordinary borders in the smaller scales. The set is not tied to a particular kit or scale; it is a workshop consumable from the Czech brand Armycast, which besides universal shapes also offers masks for aircraft national insignia.

Use

• Choose a ring of the diameter you need, peel it off the sheet and stick it on a cured base coat.
• Press the film down all round the edge; on rounded surfaces gentle warming or a decal softener helps.
• Cover the inner circle and the surroundings with masking tape, so that only the line of the ring itself is left open.
• Typical application: rings at the ends of engine cowlings.
• Spray thinly and at right angles to the surface, and lift the mask off while the paint is still touch-dry.

Who the set is for

For modelers who want their circular borders sprayed rather than applied as decals or laboriously drawn with a brush. A sprayed ring has the same sheen and texture as the surrounding finish, makes no step and takes matting and weathering. A constant line width of 0.8 mm across all diameters keeps a uniform look even where you use several sizes on one model. It will be appreciated above all by those who work with an airbrush and deal with fine detail.

It is a masking supply, not a model. The paints and the model are not included in the package. Stick the masks on only when the base is fully cured, otherwise the paint may be pulled off when they are lifted.
