A tool from the Hungarian maker of modeling tools RP Toolz. The set contains a die, 10 punches and a small hammer. The punches have the shape of a rivet (a half sphere) and are graduated at 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9, 1, 1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 and 2 mm. The manufacturer states it for plastic, PVC, styrene, aluminum and brass; it serves for making the shape of a rivet as well as holes. Take note: it is not a riveting wheel that is rolled over the surface of a model. It is a punch and die tool, worked on a base with a hammer.
Real aircraft and ships are literally covered in rivets. Kits often have them faint, and above all: as soon as you sand and fill the seam of the fuselage, you simply wipe the rivets around the seam away. After sanding a smooth area gapes there, which under paint and a wash looks like plastic, not like sheet metal. Yet riveting is among the details that lift a model the most, precisely because under a coat of paint and a highlighting shade it comes out beautifully in the play of light and shadow.
Always try it on scrap plastic first. The result is decided by the force of the blow and the thickness of the material; with thin film a tap is enough, with brass a firmer stroke is needed. Work on a firm base and mark the pitch out in advance with a ruler or masking tape, otherwise the row of rivets will wander and the irregularity shows on the finished model more than missing rivets would. And always make a few rivets in reserve; one of them will fly off.
For aircraft and ship modelers who care about surface detail, and for anyone who likes to make parts himself. It is a tool, not an accessory for one particular model; you buy it once and use it for years.
A tool with sharp edges and a hammer: work carefully and keep it out of the reach of children. It is not a kit.
