RLM 61 Dunkelbraun, meaning dark brown, is a dark brown from the German aircraft standard, which listed shades under a two-digit number after the abbreviation RLM. It was a binding palette rather than a freely mixed tone, so the paints from this range go together and can be combined by number. Number 61 belonged to the trio with shades 62 and 63 that Luftwaffe machines carried in the second half of the 1930s and at the start of the war, usually as a segmented camouflage with sharp transitions between the fields.
A brown field of this kind forms the darker part of the camouflage on a model and is most visible on the upper surfaces of the wing and the fuselage. The shade suits anywhere you are building a German machine in its early finish, and it serves equally well wherever a muted earthy brown without a red cast is needed, for example on equipment, crates or the terrain of a diorama.
Stir the bottle thoroughly before use, as the pigment settles at the bottom and unmixed paint shifts the tone. It is applied in several thin coats onto a degreased, dust-free surface, ideally over a primer that evens out the absorbency of plastic, filler and accessories. Segmented camouflage with sharp edges calls for masking the area, where the mask is always stuck down before spraying and lifted as soon as the paint has set. Thinning, the spraying pressure and cleaning the tools follow the instructions from the manufacturer on the packaging.
The paint alone is supplied. Thinner, primer, a final varnish and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
