A Green Stuff World texturing roller with a relief in a steampunk spirit. It is neither a paint nor a finished element of scenery but a tool: it is rolled over spread-out modeling putty while it is still pliable and presses a continuous pattern into it. From one roller an area of any size with a repeating motif can arise, without every detail having to be dealt with separately.

Where it belongs in a scene

A scene is built in layers from the bottom up and the roller works right in the first of them, where it is decided what the surface will look like. The finished textured area then becomes the base on which further layers can be built: first the color toning that draws out the recesses and brings out the relief, then local detail and finally accents and the placing of the figure. A steampunk motif suits fantastical and alternative-historical scenes, where a surface is to look technical and out of keeping with ordinary paving or natural terrain.
