A satin varnish from the Real Colors line by AK Interactive in a bottle with a volume of 17 ml. It lies exactly between a flat and a gloss finish, and that is precisely why many modelers use it as their starting choice. A completely flat surface often looks dusty on a model and draws the shadows into itself, whereas a gloss reveals every irregularity. A gentle satin reflection is the compromise that works on most subjects.
On figures it gives skin, a leather belt and painted equipment convincing depth. On vehicles it suits places where the finish is meant to look maintained, that is on machines away from combat, on civilian cars and on models straight from the factory. It also serves as an intermediate coat: it seals decals while leaving the surface smooth enough for a glaze to still flow into the recesses.
Shake the bottle thoroughly before use. Apply two thin coats and let the surface flash off between them, as one generous coat runs and pools in the corners. Thin it only with the product the manufacturer recommends for this line, not with water at random. Try the level of sheen on an offcut before work, since the judgment of a reflection differs from person to person and with the light in the room.
