A modeling knife for separating and cleaning up, that is, for the work that precedes gluing in a model build: separating a part, leveling the excess material left behind and squaring up the edge. The shape and length of the blade, and whether it is replaceable, are given by the manufacturer on the packaging.
Always cut away from yourself and away from the hand holding the part, and work on a cutting mat. Cut the excess material off a little away from the part rather than tight against it, and only then sand the remainder; when cutting tight, plastic is apt to break out and a dent is left in the surface. Several light passes give a cleaner edge than one heavy one. A knife does not replace a file or sanding paper; its job is the cut, not leveling a surface.
A blunt blade is more dangerous than a sharp one, because it slips over the material and calls for more pressure. As soon as it starts tearing the edge of the cut instead of passing through it, it is time to replace or sharpen it. Store the knife with its cap on and out of reach of children.
The tool alone is supplied. A cutting mat, spare blades and kits are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
