With fastening material it is consistency rather than quantity that decides the result. When you mix three different sizes and two different shapes on one model, the result acts as disorderly, even if every individual part were done brilliantly. A sensible procedure is to pick one size as the basic one for the given model, stick to it and reach for another only where there is a technical reason for it. The same goes for a whole diorama: models standing side by side should have their detail in the same fineness, otherwise one of them looks coarse.
