A hollow brass section of square profile, that is a tube with four flat walls and right angles at the corners. Compared with a solid rod of the same size it is lighter and a wire or a lighting lead can be passed through it, while it holds its shape and does not twist. Brass can be sanded and polished and it solders well.
The outside dimension of the section is 2.4 mm and there is one piece in the package. If you need to push another section into the tube, measure the wall thickness and the inside bore once you have it in hand. You will find the length on the packaging. The section is a semi-finished material; it does not replace any particular part of a model and you cut the individual lengths from it as you need them yourself.
A thin square section comes in useful for railing posts, stanchions and struts, the frames of trailers, the lattice structures of cranes and halls in dioramas and on the small parts of ship superstructures. It also suits use as a sleeve into which a thinner section or a wire is pushed, making a firm joint that can be taken apart again.
Cut the section with a fine metal saw and then level the cut with a file; it cannot be cut with a file alone. Nippers squeeze the thin wall at the point of the cut, so with tubes a saw is the safer choice. Chamfer the ends so that the parts seat against each other without a gap. You can join them with super glue, on loaded places rather with two-part epoxy, or by soldering with tin. Before painting, wash the section, degrease it and apply a primer meant for metal, otherwise the paint will not hold on smooth brass.
