A pack of magnetic squares 20 by 20 millimeters, 126 pieces in all. The magnet is glued into the bottom of a square base and the figure then holds itself on a steel plate or in a transport case.

Anyone who has once tipped a box of painstakingly painted soldiers onto the sidewalk outside the club room will never put magnets aside again. This pack covers the smallest of the usual square bases, the twenty-millimeter one, and offers it in a quantity that is enough even for a large formation of line infantry, with a reserve for the figures still waiting to be painted.
The square goes into the recess in the bottom of the base or is glued flat underneath. The counterpart is a steel plate, a magnetic board in a case or a thin sheet of metal glued into the bottom of a transport box. The advantage over hook-and-loop fastening is plain: nothing rubs against the paint, the figure can be picked up at any time and, when put down, it drops exactly where it belongs.
Try the square dry before gluing it in, because bases from different makers have bottoms of unequal depth. If the square sits too high, the figure will rock on the plate. If space is left over instead, fill it with a piece of plastic sheet so the square is held firmly against the bottom.
Do not place the magnet in the middle of the bottom of a base on which a heavy figure with a high center of gravity stands; put it nearer the edge, in the direction of the lean. Carrying then survives even a car journey over cobblestones. And if you are building a formation you will often rearrange, consider magnetizing the whole storage tray at once, because individual squares in this quantity will cover it with room to spare.
