A liquid pigment on an enamel base in a standard rust shade, intended for aging a model. It is applied with a brush where rust forms on a real machine.

Standard Rust is a liquid pigment in a standard, that is a rust brown, shade of rust. The name carries it as an enamel, so it is a pigment mixed into a binder of the enamel type: you do not have to prepare it yourself, but at the same time you work with it differently from a loose pigment. It is used at the stage of aging a model, when a finished coat is to be given the traces of use and weather.
Shake the container thoroughly before every use, as the pigment settles at the bottom. Apply the product with a brush in thin coats and let each one dry, as the intensity is reached more easily by building up layers than with one heavy stroke. Handle the thinner, the thinning ratio and cleaning your tools according to the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging, and use a thinner meant for enamel paints. The surplus can be blended and drawn off with the same thinner on a damp brush until the coat has hardened. Before you start on the model, try the procedure on an offcut of plastic with the same base as your build has.
Rust is not done over whole areas but in the places where it has a reason. Watch the welds, the edges of hatches, the hinges, the mountings, the exhausts, the tool fixings, the lower edges of fenders and the places where the finish has been rubbed through. Vertical traces form below them, as water carries rust down the surface. What helps the work most is restraint: a few well placed spots look more convincing than an evenly rusted machine.
The model, the brushes, the thinner and a protective varnish are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
