This is not a kit but a loose scenic material. The package contains crushed natural stone sieved to a single size fraction. It is used as a ballast bed under track, as the surface of field and unpaved roads, as material for embankments or as a base for terrain work on a diorama. Chert is a hard sedimentary rock; in this form it has a gray-brown, mildly warm tone that sits well with the usual shades of dust and earth and does not look as contrasting in a scene as dark volcanic rock.
The designation size 0 refers to the size range in which the manufacturer grades its stone. The range begins with fine dusts and ends with coarser fractions; size 0 belongs to the coarser steps and suits anywhere the individual grain is meant to read clearly in a finished scene. The one-kilogram package is intended for larger areas, longer stretches of track or for builders who need the same shade repeatedly.
For builders of dioramas, cabinet scenes and railroad layouts, and for modelers who want to stand a model on real stone. The material is not tied to one scale; what decides is the grain size relative to the model.
