Stone - White, a scenic material for light stone areas

A scenic material by Woodland intended for building terrain. It is not a model and not a finished decoration, but a medium that you apply to the base of a diorama, to a display base or to a layout and fix yourself. The white version is aimed at the light stone elements of a scene: outcrops, boulders, rubble and light areas that are meant to lighten darker surroundings visually and break up a uniform terrain surface.

Light stones behave differently in a finished scene from dark ones: they attract the eye, so it pays to be sparing with them and to concentrate them where the viewer is meant to look. They work best in contrast with darker soil or vegetation.

Use

• Shape the basic form of the terrain from a base medium and let it cure; stone areas are set in place only on the finished shape.
• Lay the material out dry and only then fix it; with scenic media PVA glue thinned with water and a drop of dish soap is usually used, applied with a pipette over a moistened surface.
• Vary the sizes and cluster them irregularly; a regular arrangement gives a finished scene away at once.
• Unify the shade only once it has dried, with washes, filters and pigments, not by coloring the material beforehand.
• Set the vegetation, the grass and the model itself in place at the very end, so that the stone areas are not clogged.

Who the material is for

For builders of dioramas and display scenes in any scale, for wargamers who build their own bases and gaming terrain, and for railroad modelers. Working with a scenic medium needs no experience with resin or with photo-etched parts, so it is a rewarding start if you are only now getting ready to build scenery.
