Grass tufts 5 mm high in a tube, intended for dioramas, bases and scenic accessories.
Responsibility details are not available.
A grass tuft is a tiny bunch of fibers set into a backing. Unlike loose scatter it has height and direction, so on a diorama it creates the shadow and irregularity that scatter alone will never give. It is used where grass grows in clumps: along railway tracks, at the foot of posts, in the worn ruts of a road or at the edge of a field.
The fibers are 5 mm high, which corresponds to taller grass in the small scales and to low grass cover in the larger ones. The tufts are supplied in a tube, from which they are taken out one at a time with tweezers; the container is also practical for storage, because the fibers neither go limp nor gather dust.
Plan the placing dry first and only then glue, because the arrangement decides more than the material itself. Do not set the tufts at regular intervals but in groups of varying density. Some forms have an adhesive layer on the underside, while for the others a drop of PVA glue is enough; check the method of attachment on the box. Once it has dried, the fibers can be trimmed with scissors to an uneven height and gone over lightly with a pigment or a dark glaze, so that the tuft does not come across as a freshly sown lawn.
They suit dioramas, figure bases and the landscape around a model railway. They also serve well to cover the transition between a base and a model, where a gap tends to show. Glue, pigments and a surface are not included, unless stated otherwise.
