A pull scriber with a tungsten steel tip and a working width of 0.6 mm. A width slightly greater than the finest tips of the range, so the line is plain even under a coat of primer and paint but still reads to scale.
A scriber is most often ruined not by breaking but by clogging. The plastic taken off packs into the bend of the hook as fine shavings, the tip stops cutting and the modeler deals with it by pushing, which leads to running off the line or to breaking the tip. The remedy is banal: after every longer stretch, clean the tip with a soft brush or a piece of foam and wipe it with a dry cloth before putting it away. Neither degreaser nor solvent is needed for that, and with a tool that has a plastic handle it is better to avoid them.
It serves modelers who scribe regularly and want graded widths in their set, and all those who prefer a tool that can be looked after to repeatedly buying throwaway substitutes.
