The rust red matte shade Lifecolor Rosso Ruggine Regio Esercito Matt has rust in its very name, and on a model it is the main corrosion tone: the one that lies between a fresh orange cast and an old dark brown.
Responsibility details are not available.
Rosso Ruggine means rust red in Italian and it is one of the few shades with its purpose written straight into its name. On a model it represents the middle stage of corrosion, the state in which rust is no longer a fresh stain but has not yet had time to darken to brown-black. It is precisely this intermediate stage that occurs most often on real vehicles, which is why it is usually the best one to start from.
The surest method is to build rust in three steps and to reduce the area in each. First the whole corroded spot is covered with this mid rust tone. In the second step a darker brown is stippled into it, but only into the hollows and toward the edges, so that a shadow appears. In the third, a warmer, lighter tone is added to the highest points as the youngest corrosion. It is applied with the tip of the brush, a piece of sponge or very fine stippling, never as a full area; a continuous rusty coat looks like paint, not like rust.
It suits anyone taking on corrosion for the first time who wants one universal rust tone from which they can go in both directions. More experienced modelers will use it as the middle link of the whole rust scale and also on cargo, chains, barrels and the metal equipment of dioramas.
