ULTRAMARINE – PLAYMARKER

Playmarker marker pen, ultramarine blue

A marker pen from the Playmarker range in a shade named after ultramarine, that is a rich dark blue with a slight cast toward violet. The tip lays the paint down directly, so the brush, the palette and the mixing of the shade all fall away. On small areas that is a noticeable saving of time, and on quick repairs to a finished model it is greater still.

Where the rich blue is used

Dark blue is the color of uniforms, cloaks and fabrics. It suits the uniforms and cloaks of figures, shields and heraldic fields, colored parts of clothing and the small accessories that should be held together on a model by one strong tone. It also works well as a base under lighter blue passes, because on a dark ground every highlight on raised edges and folds stands out.

Working with the marker pen

• Try the stroke first on a scrap of plastic so that you know how much paint the tip gives.
• The surface should be clean, dry and degreased, otherwise the stroke breaks up.
• Lay down thin layers and let them dry; a second pass deepens the shade.
• Apply lighter tones only onto dry blue, otherwise the colors will mix straight on the model.
• Wipe the tip after work and close the marker pen carefully so that it does not dry out.
• For thinning, cleaning and any clear coating, follow the instructions from the manufacturer on the packaging.
