Weathering Powder Chrome Oxide Green — a Humbrol pigment powder

A dry pigment from the British brand Humbrol for creating weathering on models, figures and dioramas. It is a finely ground colored powder, not a liquid paint, wash or effect: it is applied dry with a brush and is held mechanically in the pores, gaps and recesses of the surface. The chrome oxide green shade suits anywhere a greenish deposit is wanted, that is on equipment that has stood for a long time, on stone and concrete elements, along the edges of chipped paint or on the submerged parts of ship hulls.

Use

• Apply it to a perfectly dry and preferably matte surface; on a smooth gloss finish the pigment will hardly hold at all.
• Work with a soft flat brush, rub the powder in with short strokes and carefully tap or wipe off the excess.
• Build the effect up gradually in thin layers; the intensity can be increased at any time, but it is harder to take away.
• The shade can be mixed with other pigments to fine-tune the exact tone of the deposit.
• For a permanent bond use a pigment fixer or a very fine mist of matte clear coat from a distance, but expect the fixing to suppress the velvety look to some extent.
• In the lower areas of the model and around rivets and transitions the green deposit looks the most natural.

For modelers of military vehicles, ships, figures and dioramas who want to add a green component to the usual dust, earth and rust tones, that is a hint of moss, algae, damp and verdigris. It also serves builders of scenic bases and railroad modules well.
