A Tamiya acrylic modeling paint from the Acrylic MINI range in a bottle with a volume of 10 ml. It is not a kit — you are buying the paint on its own. Tamiya's naming follows a simple rule: the X range is gloss, the XF range is matte. XF-28 therefore dries matte, even though it contains fine metallic pigment: the result is a dark, rather subdued copper tone with no mirror shine — the look of copper that has been in service for a while.
Apply the paint with an airbrush or a brush; for spraying, thin it with acrylic thinner X-20A — note that X-20 is a thinner for enamels and is not suited to this paint. Three extra things apply to metallics: the metal pigment settles to the bottom, so stir the bottle thoroughly before and during use; metallics cover better and more evenly on a smooth, finished surface, since every scratch and unevenness underneath will show through; and they are harder to overcoat with further layers, so save the copper details for the last step of your painting process.
For modelers of historical ships and steam equipment, diorama builders, and anyone dealing with realistic metal — from copper piping through exhausts to weathered metal parts.
Use in a well-ventilated area. Protect your airways (a respirator) when spraying with an airbrush. Keep out of the reach of children.
